This page answers one question: when does the money from an order reach your bank? It covers the three big delivery apps, their daily and instant options, how your POS compares, and why a deposit runs late or short. Commission rates are a separate question, covered in our delivery app commission rates guide. Every number below comes from the company's own merchant help pages, checked September 2026.

How long does DoorDash take to pay restaurants?
DoorDash pays restaurants weekly by default, covering Monday through Sunday and sending the deposit the following Thursday so it typically lands in your bank on Friday, or every weekday at no charge if you turn on daily payouts in the Merchant Portal.
Source: DoorDash's banking help article. A Monday order therefore waits 11 days and a Sunday order 5, about 8 days per dollar on average.
Daily payouts cost nothing: partners "can either choose to receive a weekly direct deposit from DoorDash or opt in to daily payouts at no charge" (DoorDash merchant FAQ). The Canadian edition of the learning center adds the timing the US page omits, weekdays only, 3 days after the sale (DoorDash learning center, Canada), so expect a 3 to 5 day lag once weekends are counted. Enroll under Settings, Account settings, Get Daily Payouts; the same page opts you out (DoorDash: financial information in the Merchant Portal).
The deposit is a net figure: Net Total = Sales minus (Commission and Fees plus Marketing Spend) plus Amendments (DoorDash: payout and monthly statement). Error charges for missing or wrong items (25% to 100% of the item price plus tax) come out of the payout and can be disputed under Financials, Transactions within 14 days (DoorDash: error charges and disputes). To see what commission does to an order before it reaches the payout, use the DoorDash fee calculator.
How long does Uber Eats take to pay restaurants?
Uber Eats pays restaurants weekly for a pay period running Monday 12 AM to the next Monday 12 AM, starts the deposit on Monday, and after 1 to 2 days of bank processing the money usually arrives midweek, or daily for $1 per day per location with Daily Pay.
Uber's store payments article says to expect funds "by the middle of each week"; with a Wednesday landing, a Monday order waits 9 days and a Sunday order 3, about 6 on average.
Daily Pay carries "a $1 fee per day per location", and because banks do not process on weekends, Friday and weekend payments process the following Monday (Uber Eats: Daily Pay for stores). To switch: Uber Eats Manager, Payments, Edit next to Weekly payout settings, Daily; allow 1 day to take effect plus 3 to 4 days for the first payment (Uber Eats: changing weekly payouts to daily). Uber's two articles differ on eligibility, so check your Payments tab. At $365 a year per location, Daily Pay is about 0.23% of $3,000 a week in sales.
Two more rules: new or changed bank details can add a week before payments post (Uber Eats: missing payments), and refunds for missing or wrong items are "deducted directly from restaurant payouts" within 1 to 2 weeks, with 30 days from the order to dispute (Uber Eats: managing refunds).
How long does Grubhub take to pay restaurants?
Grubhub pays restaurants by direct deposit weekly, twice a week, or every two weeks, whichever you pick in the Grubhub for Restaurants portal, or by a single monthly check mailed on the fifth business day for the previous month. Grubhub publishes no instant option for marketplace orders.
Both facts are in Grubhub's payment frequency FAQ. You pick the frequency from a dropdown under Settings, then Payment, and connect your bank through Plaid; if the bank does not support instant matching, confirmation takes 1 to 2 business days (Grubhub: payments and finances guide).
Grubhub does not publish the deposit weekday or cutoff for each cycle, so your Financials tab is the only place to see your dates. Grubhub Direct, the white-label ordering page, is paid daily and separately from marketplace orders, direct deposit required (Grubhub: Grubhub Direct payments).
Which platforms offer instant payouts for restaurants?
No delivery app pays restaurants instantly; the instant options belong to the POS and payment side, where Toast Instant Deposit (1.75%), Square instant transfer (1.95%), Clover Rapid Deposit (1.75%) and Stripe Instant Payouts (1.5% in the US) each move money in about 30 minutes for a percentage fee.
| Option | Speed | Fee | Limits and eligibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toast Instant Deposit | About 30 minutes, any day | 1.75% | $25 minimum, $10,000 a day per location, under 11 locations, US only, new locations wait 3 to 5 business days |
| Square instant or same-day transfer | Minutes, nights and weekends | 1.95% per transfer | $25 minimum balance; new sellers 1 a day up to $2,000; same-day capped at $10,000 |
| Clover Rapid Deposit | Minutes, up to 30 | 1.75%, taken from the next standard deposit | Visa or Mastercard business debit; depends on account tenure and status |
| Stripe Instant Payouts | About 30 minutes, any day | 1.5% (US) | New Stripe accounts are not eligible right away |
| DoorDash daily payouts | Weekdays, about 3 days after the sale | $0 | Enroll under Settings in the Merchant Portal |
| Uber Eats Daily Pay | Daily, plus bank settlement | $1 per day per location | Opt in under Payments in Uber Eats Manager |
One product fronts delivery-app money early: Square's Instant Payouts with delivery partners puts "your estimated net earnings" from DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub orders into Square Checking as orders arrive, then settles against the real payout; it needs Square Checking and a Square for Restaurants plan, and the help article lists no fee (Square: Instant Payouts with delivery partners). DoorDash Capital is not a payout at all: it is a cash advance from DoorDash's partner Parafin, repaid as "a fixed percentage of your sales" plus a one-time fee (DoorDash Capital).
Do the fee math once. Moving $3,000 a week at 1.75% costs $52.50 a week, about $2,730 a year; at 1.95% it is about $3,040. Against net margins of 3% to 9%, that is a fifth to more than half of the profit on those sales. Uber's $365 a year and DoorDash's $0 are a different category.
How fast do Toast, Square, Clover and Stripe deposit card sales?
Square deposits the next business day for payments taken before 5 PM PT, Toast the next business day if you batch before 9:30 PM ET and two business days later if after, Clover 1 to 3 business days after the batch closes, and Stripe 2 business days for US accounts. None deposit on weekends or federal holidays.
| Platform | Daily cutoff | Weekday sales land | Friday and weekend sales land |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toast | 9:30 PM ET; the 4 AM auto-batch counts as after | Next business day before cutoff, 2 business days after | After cutoff: Thursday to Saturday batches land Monday, Sunday lands Tuesday |
| Square | 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET | Next business day before cutoff, second business day after | Friday before 5 PM PT posts by Monday morning; nothing sent Saturdays |
| Clover | Batch closeout, automatic or manual | 1 to 3 business days after the batch closes | Business days only |
| Stripe | Time of capture | 2 business days (T+2); first payout on a new account takes 7 to 14 days | Weekend and holiday payouts move to the next business day |
Toast adds that some deposits take up to five business days for banking reasons, and asks you to wait that long before calling (Toast: missing or delayed deposits). In practice a dinner-heavy restaurant on Toast or Square is on a two-business-day cycle: Thursday and Friday dinner is paid Monday or Tuesday, still 3 to 6 days ahead of the weekly marketplace cycle.
Why is my payout late or smaller than expected?
The usual causes are a bank holiday on your deposit day, a new account still in verification, a recent bank-account change, refunds or error charges netted out of the payout, or a batch that never closed. Each has a fix, and most show in the platform's payout report before you call support.
| Cause | How it shows up | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Federal bank holiday | Deposit lands one business day late everywhere | Mark the 11 Fed holidays on the payroll calendar |
| New account or risk review | DoorDash and Stripe hold payouts until Stripe verifies you; Stripe's first payout takes 7 to 14 days; Toast and Clover hold flagged batches | Upload EIN letter, ID and business license before launch; answer analyst requests the same day |
| Bank details changed | Uber adds up to a week; Grubhub needs 1 to 2 business days; Toast rejects an incomplete change | Change details the day after a deposit lands |
| Refunds and error charges | DoorDash nets 25% to 100% of the item plus tax; Uber nets refunds within 1 to 2 weeks | Review Transactions weekly; dispute within 14 days (DoorDash) or 30 (Uber) |
| Batch never closed | Toast: reader disconnected or network dropped; Clover: manual closeout skipped | Check the Settled Deposits report, close the batch |
DoorDash lists five reasons a payout pauses: "Bank account hiccups, DoorDash fraud concern, Stripe fraud flags, CP2100 tax regulation, Outdated or missing business information". It pays through Stripe, and "if information is missing or incorrect, Stripe may hold payouts until verification is complete" (DoorDash: how to prevent payment delays). Clover adds that rejected ACH transfers "are not retried" and gives new accounts 30 days to finish verification (Clover: understand funding delays).
Holidays are the one delay you can plan for: the Federal Reserve observes 11 a year and ACH does not settle on them (Federal Reserve holiday schedules). Thanksgiving 2026 (Thursday, November 26), Christmas 2026 (Friday), New Year's Day 2027 (Friday) and both November 2027 Thursdays hit DoorDash's send or landing day; Columbus Day 2026 (Monday, October 12) and six Monday holidays in 2027 hit Uber Eats.
Worked example: $3,000 a week on one app

An illustration with round numbers, not a benchmark: $3,000 a week through one delivery app, about $429 a day, counting calendar days from sale to bank deposit.
| Schedule | Wait for Monday's sales | Wait for Sunday's sales | Typical average wait | Sales waiting on an average day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DoorDash weekly (Thursday send, Friday landing) | 11 days | 5 days | 8 days | about $3,400 |
| Uber Eats weekly (Wednesday landing) | 9 days | 3 days | 6 days | about $2,600 |
| DoorDash daily payouts (weekdays, 3 days in arrears) | 3 days | 3 days | 3 to 5 days | about $1,500 |
| Toast or Square standard, dinner-heavy | 3 days | 2 days | 2 to 5 days | about $1,300 |
| Same-day or instant | under 1 day | under 1 day | 0 days | about $0 |
On the weekly DoorDash schedule the pile peaks on Thursday, the day before the deposit lands: the whole prior week ($3,000) plus Monday through Thursday (about $1,700), roughly $4,700 earned and unspendable. Daily payouts cut the average pile from about $3,400 to about $1,500; a second weekly app doubles it.
Now set that against the cash buffer. JPMorgan Chase Institute's study of 597,000 small businesses found restaurants hold the thinnest buffer of the 12 industries measured, 16 days against a 27-day median (JPMorgan Chase Institute: Cash Is King; 2015 data, still the standard reference). If the app is a third of your sales, the restaurant does about $9,000 a week, roughly $1,286 a day, so a 16-day buffer is about $20,600. The weekly pile is 17% of that on an average day (2.6 buffer days) and 23% at the Thursday peak (3.7 days); daily payouts cut it to about 7% and 10%.
A weekly schedule quietly holds a fifth to a quarter of the median restaurant's cash cushion, and cash, not sales, is what closes restaurants: the Federal Reserve's 2026 Small Business Credit Survey (6,525 employer firms, fielded late 2025) found 68% of leisure and hospitality firms struggled to pay operating expenses and 46% cited uneven cash flow (Federal Reserve Banks: 2026 Report on Employer Firms). The restaurant failure rate data tells the same story from the other end.
What to do this week:
- Open each app's payout tab, note the deposit weekday and the period it covers, and put both on the calendar next to payroll and rent.
- Turn on DoorDash daily payouts, decide whether Uber Daily Pay is worth $365 a year per location, and move Grubhub to twice a week.
- Change bank details only the day after a deposit lands, keep percentage-fee instant transfers for emergencies, and dispute error charges within 14 days (DoorDash) or 30 (Uber Eats).
Where DirectOrders fits
DirectOrders is commission-free online ordering for independent restaurants on a flat monthly fee (Pro at $249 a month, Pro + Voice at $349 a month), and orders placed on your own website pay out the same day instead of riding a weekly marketplace cycle. It does not change how DoorDash or Uber Eats pay you; it changes how much of your volume sits on a weekly schedule at all. Cutoff times and weekend behavior are on the same-day payouts page, and the 14-day free trial covers a full week of deposits.

Bottom line
DoorDash pays weekly with a Thursday deposit that lands Friday, Uber Eats starts its weekly deposit on Monday and lands midweek, and Grubhub pays weekly, twice a week, or every two weeks. The cheapest speed-ups cost little or nothing: DoorDash daily payouts, Grubhub's twice-a-week cycle, and Uber's $1-a-day Daily Pay. Instant transfers from Toast, Square, Clover and Stripe cost 1.5% to 1.95% each time, about $3,000 a year on $3,000 a week. A weekly schedule ties up two to four days of a 16-day cash buffer, so set the cheap options, calendar the deposit days and holidays, and dispute error charges in time.
Frequently Asked Questions
On the default weekly schedule, DoorDash sends the deposit on Thursday for all orders completed the prior Monday through Sunday, and the money typically shows in the restaurant's bank account on Friday. If Thursday or Friday is a federal bank holiday, expect it a business day later. Restaurants that enroll in daily payouts in the Merchant Portal are paid on weekdays instead, for sales completed a few days earlier.
